Waves of Energy
Hey, ran into a surf acquaintance last night at a photography show, he lives down by Tonggs/Kapiolani Park, and he went up to Diamond Head lookout on a bicycle at 3 am to see the wave, said they had the surf break lit up with floodlights so he and about 20 people plus the Coast Guard HPD HFD could see what would happen. He said the reef drained dry, 200m out, the whole Cliffs lineup was he said “dry”, then close to 20min later flooded completely, then repeated 3 or 4 more times over the next 45 min.
This guy I’ve surfed with over the last 18 years, solid good surfer, said it was the scariest thing he’s ever seen. Completely freaked out. Even though it was small and obviously not going to do him any imminent personal harm, he still was pretty shook up. Said he had to go home after watching 3-4, too exhausting.
I think everyone is a bit ‘reflective’ about this particular tsunami warning in Hawaii.
